Frequently Asked Questions
Are GoPro HERO12, HERO11, and HERO10 cameras supported?
The GoPro HERO12, HERO11, and HERO10 are now compatible with our UpBlink controller, uploading images to CloudX, as is the Sony RX0II. GoPro HERO6 through HERO8 Black can run in capture-only mode, which saves images to the SD card only.
Can I use my own camera?
Yes, you can. The compatibility list can be found here. However, most customers find it easier to order everything from us.
What internet connection methods are supported?
4G, Wifi, or PoE (power over ethernet) can be used where available to provide network connectivity for syncing images with CloudX and image & device management. Our recommended 4G hotspot modems list can be found here, most are compatible with one or more major carriers in each country.
What is the difference between the Sony and GoPro cameras?
The new Sony RX0II is a 15.3MP camera and has a resolution of 5K with full pixel readout for crisp, smooth images. The ZEISS lens and large 1" Exmor RS sensor ensure a superior image in both low and full light conditions. Time lapse capture and upload features are compatible with UpBlink. How long do the battery and SD card last?
We ship with the 128GB Sandisk U3 SD card, which provides more than enough storage for 99% of projects (see the time lapse calculator). However, a 256GB card may also be used. The battery will be kept charged by the power source chosen – AC or solar panel. The battery alone can power the system for an average of 2-3 weeks on a typical project. The solar panels and batteries can be doubled up to extend the backup operating duration.
What temperature range can the camera operate in?
The camera and UpBlink can operate in most typical temperature ranges. High heat up to 120F/49C is usually not a problem, but operating at sustained temperatures below 10F-12C needs a little extra care. Read important information about setting up your system in low temperatures.
Can the camera be connected to AC power?
The time lapse camera can be connected to AC power in any country where available. To use AC power, purchase a 5V 2A Micro USB AC adapter, and follow the instructions on our website. It is also possible to power the camera using a PoE splitter that can supply 5V 2A via a MicroUSB port.
How much does it cost?
Our 5K construction time lapse cameras offer the best value in the industry, starting at just $2k for a 5K GoPro based system, with industry-leading integrations such as Procore, PlanGrid, and Autodesk. CloudX subscriptions start at $69/month.
