If you are using the GoPro camera for extended periods, it is better to power the camera with a Battery Eliminator instead of connecting the GoPro's USB port to a charger. These 12V Battery Eliminators come with 2 conductor lead wires and no connectors. These can be connected directly to 12 volt (or any 9 to 24 volt) source. The cables are color coded with red positive and black negative.
The 12V Battery Eliminator includes a voltage regulator and power line filter for maximum noise immunity and automatic accommodation to DC input voltages from 9V to 24V, such as a car or boat batteryor a 12V accessory jack. The battery eliminator snaps into the battery slot of all GoPro HERO3 and HERO3+ models and latches like the GoPro lid for a secure fit.
Using a battery eliminator eliminates two sources of heat. The charging circuit in the camera and the battery itself, which gets warm while charging. Less heat makes the camera more reliable. Overheating can cause unexpected shut-down of the camera. A battery eliminator also bypasses the problems that some users have had with the GoPro camera's charging logic causing the camera to freeze and require a hard reset.
WARNING! The warranty does not cover damage that may occur to the adapter or your camera if you connect the wires backwards to the source of power. Lead acid batteries (car batteries) and LiPo batteries can deliver large currents. Always include a fuse (allow 2A per camera) in the circuit. Shorting the wires or connecting the battery eliminator backwards will result in damage to the battery eliminator, a SIGNIFICANT FIRE HAZARD and potential explosion of the battery.
