Which CamDo Solar System is right for my GoPro camera?

What is the original dust and water ingress rating of your enclosures? Can I submerge your Solar or DRY enclosures?

The enclosures have an IP67 rating prior to installation of CamDo accessories. Our Solar and DRY enclosures are not meant to be immersed in water.

How long will the battery last before it is discharged?

Obviously it depends on your latitude, the amount of sun and cloud, the controller you are using, the camera you are using and the shooting schedule you have programmed. There are just too many variables to give an accurate answer. At this time, we have seen that it will last indefinitely taking one picture every 15 minutes with the WiFi on, in Canada in the summer.

How can I tell the battery is in always on mode?

If you hold down the power button for six seconds and the charge indicator flashes 3 times and stays lit for a second or two, you are now in Always On mode. If you hold down the power button for six seconds and the charge indicator flashes 2 times and then goes dark, you are in Auto Off mode.

How can I avoid condensation on the lens?

Condensation is a result of humid air being sealed in the box when you close it and condensing when there is a temperature change. Try to close the box in as dry an environment as possible. The extra space in the box allows for one or more sacks of desiccant to be inserted in the box. What mounting options do you offer?

DRY Enclosure for GoPro CamerasOur case has several mounting options. There are two locking holes, one on each side of the case, through which bolts, threaded rods, or U-bolts can be attached to a mounting bracket on a wall or pole.

There are 2 wide flanges on the bottom of the case which allow it to be placed on a platform so that it will sit flat. Holes can be drilled through the flanges for a permanent fixture that does not affect the integrity of the case itself.

The case has a handle for convenience on road shoots. Some users have just hung the case by the handle and secured it with gaffer tape.

DRY Enclosure for GoPro CamerasThe handle is easily removed by sliding out two metal rods. This leaves 2 holes which can be used for attaching a bracket. Or, the rod can be re-inserted, leaving an excellent attachment point for cable ties or ratchet tie downs.

CamDo Solutions DRY Enclosure for GoPro CamerasA tripod mounting bracket on the bottom of the case can be used with any standard photographic tripod or mounting bracket with a normal tripod thread (1/4" x 20). 1/4 x 20 bolts are easily obtained from any hardware store if you are making your own mount. Which cables and adapters do I use to connect the battery to the solar panel?

The batteries come with a number of useful adapters for charging phones and other cameras as well as the cables used to charge the battery.  CamDo Solutions Solar Power System with V15 Battery style=

All of the solar panels come with a 3.5 x 1.1 mm male connector (M3511) which is cemented into the enclosure. An F3511 to M3511 extension is used to extend this connector to the battery. The V15 battery is charged by the Micro-USB jack on the side of the battery. A F3511 to Micro-USB adapter is used to make the connection.  CamDo Solutions Solar Power System with V39/V44 Battery

The V44 battery is charged by a 5.5 x 2.1 mm DC power connector on the side of the battery. An F3511 to M5521 adapter is used to make the connection.

Does the enclosure O-Ring seal require special care?

The case is equipped with a hollow core EPDM gasket that has been designed to give superior performance and resist compressive deformation over time. To ensure a watertight seal, the gasket must be free of cuts, abrasions or tears. Debris or foreign material caught between the sealing rib on the bottom of the case and the gasket on the top of the case will prevent the case from sealing properly. A coat of an automotive type surface protector is recommended to help prevent dirt and debris from sticking to the seal. If the seal becomes damaged a replacement seal can be ordered from

Special care should be taken to ensure that wires or cables do not get trapped in the door when it is closed. The power-claw latches can exert extreme force, resulting in damage to the cable and the O-ring seal.

Is it possible to separate the solar panel from the box?

Yes. The solar panel is removable. It is possible to separate the parts of the mount and install it on a 0.5" rod or bolt. It is also possible to unscrew the entire mount, but that leaves 2 holes which need to be sealed.

The cable connector is fastened with a nut which can be removed. The connector is a DC 3.5mm x 1.1mm male plug which can be extended by attaching an extension cable. Once again, the hole will have to be sealed after the connector is removed.

Attention must be paid to the gauge of wire used to connect the panel to the battery. The voltage drop must not exceed 0.5 volts. A 16 AWG or larger wire is recommended for distances exceeding a few feet.

Can I use this system to charge other devices as well?

Yes. The V44 battery has 2 USB outputs. One can be used to charge or run other devices while the 2A output is used to charge the GoPro camera. The V15 only has 1 output, but, if the camera is running off its own battery, it can be unplugged to use the V15 battery.

Can your systems be used for other purposes than GoPro cameras?

Yes. You can remove the GoPro mounting fixture to provide extra space for your equipment. The solar panel, battery and enclosure can be used for your custom system or just used as a remote charging station for phones and other USB chargeable devices.
